The Round-Up Where I…You Get the Idea

by Brian Michael Foote

I know, I know – how could I just vanish like that last week?  The countless emails I received making sure I hadn’t taken ill or been abducted were really very sweet though.

Of course that didn’t actually happen.  You guys are heartless.

All the same it’s nice to be back digging through the blogs.  Since I’m a little behind this will have to be the ‘Hit and Run’ issue.  Michael Smith @MSmith had a great post up reflecting on the state, the self and language.  Perhaps language is too vague, it’s really a study of how we incite and what that means.  To say language sounds like it privileges words or speech when what were talking about is all forms of communication – art (performance and otherwise) most especially.

Helldriver @helldriver had another post up this week.  Normally I’d go on but it’s Helldriver writing about music, and you know the blog is great and you’ve either already read it or you just clicked on the link before you even got to this part of the sentence so what’s the…

Fellow Community Facilitator Sarah Morgano @Sarah_Morgano posted this week about some court directed changes to the DMCA that make me think that maybe, just maybe, somebody in Washington has a grasp on how our favorite series of tubes actually works.

Naaaawwww, it was the EFF fighting for us. God love ’em.

Mandiberg @mandiberg is testing stuff.  Don’t shake it or you’ll break something.  Tony Picciano @Apicciano had a couple of posts while I was out.  The one about greater scrutiny being aimed at for-profit colleges has a gang of great links in it.  Mary Carroll @MaryCarroll over at ‘Always a Bridesmaid’ stopped by and posted some good news.  As soon as you figure out what “it” is could you swing by and let us know, I’m too busy to look for myself.

And to wrap up the short edition, our own Matt Gold @admin gave a shout out to Andre Pitanga @apitanga for System Administrator Appreciation Day.  Thank you Andre for making sure we don’t set  the Commons on fire.  Also…if anything is broke just blame it Mandiberg.
